Advertise with us
Nobody pays to read The Escarpment. Advertising is what covers it. If your business serves Wollongong, Shellharbour or Kiama, everything is set out below: what is on offer, where the limits are, and what it costs. If you already know what you want, the advertising enquiry form is here.
Who reads it
Readers following what happens to this region as it changes: the planning and land decisions, the port and the industrial economy, health, and the institutions that hold community life together, each traced back to the record it came from. Planning in particular gets read closely here, because people have watched decisions reshape the place they live in. We publish no audience figure we cannot evidence. Ask and you will be told where the site actually sits.
Two ways to advertise
Clearly labelled display advertising. An advertising slot that announces itself as one and sits outside the journalism. You write it, we place it. It does not imitate an article, and it never reaches the newsroom.
Sponsored editorial. We report it, write it and check it, to the standard the rest of the site meets, and the label travels with it. Facts in it still carry a source, and nothing goes in about your business or anyone else's that we cannot back. It suits a real story: a service the Illawarra was missing, work you have delivered, knowledge a reader would be better off having. Adjectives are not a story.
What we will not do
The reason a placement here reaches anyone is that the reporting is independent, so we do not spend that to make a sale. No fake reviews, no paid praise, no product-flogging, no outrage bait. The byline, the angle and the verdict are not for sale; a labelled placement is. Anything requiring us to overstate a claim, mislead on a decision or bury an interest gets a courteous no. This is a region where people remember who told them the truth about a development, and that memory is the whole value of what you are buying.
Disclosure, every time
Every commercial arrangement is stated in plain words at the point it becomes relevant. That serves you before it serves anyone else. An undeclared plug that gets recognised costs the advertiser far more than the label ever would. The law asks for it, and the rule would stand here regardless.
Rates and how to enquire
A sponsored piece runs from $450, commonly $600, and from $150 for not-for-profits and community organisations. Data-led work, meaning a real dataset with a chart we author and a stated method, starts at $1,100, in proportion to the effort.
A display box runs from $80 a month, commonly $120, in three-month blocks. The Escarpment is new, though, and we will not sell you reach it does not have yet. The number is published so you can hold us to it once the readership is there.

Measured over the 30 days to 2026-10-01, from our own server-side logs. These count views of stories, not of our tip form, advertise page or colophon. They are page views, not people: we run no cookies and no client-side script, so unique visitors cannot be counted and we will not quote you a number we cannot stand behind. The lower figure is the floor we are confident in. The range subtracts an estimate of our own visits, measured against staged mastheads nobody can reach.
We publish the figure rather than make you request it. You are paying for research time and for permanence: a page that keeps turning up in search long after a campaign would have finished. Cheap would attract exactly the plugs we refuse, and the price is the easiest filter there is.
There is no obligation in an enquiry. The advertising enquiry form reaches us directly: who you are, what you are considering, and we will reply.
